Please Be in Prayer...

for two HHBC families who are currently overseas for their adoptions.

The Luseys are in Tomsk, Russia finalizing their adoption of Artyom.  This sweet boy has some medical issues that need immediate care in the U.S., so please be praying that the judge in the case waives the 30-day waiting period that normally applies to adoptions in Russia and they can bring Artyom home as soon as possible.  For more information on their situation, visit their blog: lusey.com.

The Winters will welcome their daughter, Ruthie, home from Ethiopia tomorrow!  Rebecca has been in Ethiopia since last week and officially took custody of Ruthie on Monday.  Please pray for a smooth transition and sweet family time for the Winters as they get used to being a family of four.

God is SO good and has shown Himself in amazing ways for both of these families over the past several months!

Blessed by Adoption

The saying, "A picture is worth a thousand words" is certainly applicable to our waiting moms group.

We took some time during the holidays to celebrate how God has blessed our families.  All but two of these babies arrived and met their forever families during 2011...and there are even more who aren't pictured!

If you are considering adoption or already in the process and waiting for your child, please join us!  We meet every Monday 7:30 p.m. at All About Cha near 33rd and Broadway.

Love these Waiting Mom's!

Every Monday night I get the privilege of hanging out and discussing adoption/foster care with the BEST group of ladies!!

Some of us have already adopted, some of us are in the process, others are just starting, and some have their foster placement. We have the best time discussing where God has us on this journey and how He continues to draw us closer to Him through the process. This group of ladies has blessed me beyond measure!

As a mom who has adopted children, I am ALWAYS looking for ways to expand my knowledge of adoption related topics. Even though most of these women are in the beginning of their journey to meet their child, and the birth family God has chosen for them, they always teach me something. It is a safe place where we can discuss what we may be going through. Some wait for their paperwork to be approved, others wait for "the call" from their agency, others have been matched with birthmom's and are waiting for the delivery of their child, some have their child placed with them already and are waiting their court dates. But, all of us have this common bond running through ... our love for the way God is creating our family!! I am so thankful for each of them!

We are always looking for new "waiting mom's" to join us! We meet at What about Cha in Edmond on Monday night's at 7:30. It's located at the corner of 33rd and Broadway. If you would like to no more about it you can email me at shettrons@aol.com.

New Study To Begin For Adoptive/Foster Parents

As an adoptive mom myself, I am always looking for resources to help me be a better mom. I don't think this is just because our family was created through adoption, I think all mom's are always looking for resources to help them be a "better" mom. We want to do all that we can to help our children succeed in life. We want to help them grow in their knowledge of Christ. We want to teach them all that we can before they leave home.

I don't think I am alone in this. This is why I am very excited about an upcoming study we are having at Henderson Hills Baptist Church. The book we will be studying is "The Connected Child", by Karyn Purvis. This study is geared to bring hope and healing to your adoptive or foster family. It is designed to help parents correct and connect with their children.
It will help equip parents with practical methods to build stronger bonds and more nurturing relationships with their children. It brings hope to families while empowering them to thrive. Amber Given, Licensed Counselor and Director of Peppers Ranch will lead us through "The Connected Child" Book and Workbook. The workbook was co-authored by Karyn Purvis and Michael and Amy Monroe. The Monroe's lead an adoption and foster care ministry called "Tapestry" at Irving Bible Chapel in Irving Texas. They are also adoptive parents.

The class will be on Saturday nights at Henderson Hills from 6:45 - 8:00pm. It will begin on February 5th for 5 weeks. You can contact me for more information at shettrons@aol.com. Childcare will be provided.
