Becoming a Band-Aid Dad

This morning I read this article written from an adoptive dad's perspective. I LOVED IT! I can't tell you how many times I am guilty of "brushing off" a wound my children feel are so BIG (if you know what I mean)! What a simple concept, just taking the time to let them know that whatever is wrong with them is important to you. And how this can ultimately, in some small way, help heal a past hurt.

Waiting Mom Shares Her Heart

Several months ago my husband and I met with a couple who were considering adoption. We were thrilled to do this! We consider it one of our greatest joys to be able to share our personal experience and help someone else who is starting down this journey.

We visited with them about where they were at in the process, and different options that were out there. It was just a sweet time of getting to talk adoption. I left that meeting thinking...Wow, thanks God for allowing us to do this. Well, fast forward several months later and I have to tell you this couple has amazed me!! I think sometimes when we think God is using us to help someone else, He really might be doing the opposite! I have learned a ton from this "waiting mom" about being willing to open yourself up to His plan.

She has now started a blog about their adoption journey. She opens up her heart to the whole process and it is so incredible to see how far they have come. I can not wait to see what God has in store for this family! You can follow their journey at www.themadoles.blogspot.com.

If you or someone you know is considering adoption, or foster care Engaging the Fatherless has many people on our team who have walked this journey before you and would love to help in any way. You can email me at shettrons@aol.com and I will help put you in contact with the right person.

"For he chose us in him before the creation of the world to be holy and blameless in his sight. In love he predestined us to be adopted as his sons through Jesus Christ, in accordance with his pleasure and will." Ephesians 4:1-5

Updates, Updates, Updates!

Wow! First let me say I am sorry for the extended absence between posts. But, a lot is happening within this ministry! Praise God!

Our Waiting Mom's Group has moved! We are now meeting at All About Cha on 33rd and Broadway in Edmond. So, if you are looking for a great group of women who know what it's like to wonder if every phone call you receive...might...just might be "the one" then come join us! Those of you who are waiting, you know what I'm talking about. All the women in this group are either currently waiting to be matched, or have been through the process. We meet on Monday nights at 7:30 so come join us! You can email me at shettrons@aol.com if you would like more information.

Ever considered visiting a foster child/infant in the hospital? Well, maybe you haven't, but now you can! Engaging the Fatherless is sponsoring a training offered by DHS to allow you to rock babies, read books to infants, or simply spend time with foster children who need an adult to be with them. The training will be on Thursday, December 2nd from 6-8 pm. We will meet at Henderson Hills Baptist Church in the Preschool Room P114-P115. You can email jlee@hhbc.com to find out more information. This is a great way to invest time and share some love with a child in the Oklahoma foster care.

Speaking of foster care...are you currently a family who is either in the process of fostering a child, or have a child/children in your home? We have a Foster Care support group meeting that will help encourage you along this journey. If you would like more information on this support group you can email millardkbme@yahoo.com.

This just highlights a few things we are up to. Many, many more to come! Keep checking back here and at the hhbc.com website under the Engaging the Fatherless Ministry tab.
